Two positive numbers differ by 5 and their square roots?

Two positive numbers differ by 5 and their square roots differ by 1. Find the numbers. Show steps for understanding of solving.Two positive numbers differ by 5 and their square roots?
x-y=5, (\/'''x''' -\/'''y''')(\/'''x'''' +\/''''y''')=5

\/'''x'''' -\/''y''''''=1

\/''''x''' +\/'''y'''=5

--------------------- add them up

2\/'''x''' =6,

x=9 , y=4

God bless you.Two positive numbers differ by 5 and their square roots?
Let the positive numbers be x^2 and y^2. Suppose x%26gt;y.

Square roots differ by 1 means x-y =1

Numbers differ by 5 so x^2-y^2=5

Hence (x-y)(x+y)=5

As x-y=1 then this simplifies to x+y=5

With x-y=1 and x+y=5 it is easy to solve to get x=3 and y=2
4 and 9

they differ by 5

square roots are 2 and 3 respectively
